Only 55% cane crop crushed to date

Only 55% of this year's cane crop has been crushed so far, with two-thirds of the crushing season gone.

Now that the wet weather is fast approaching, it is anticipated that there will be a large volume of standover cane when the mills are forced to close in December.

It would certainly be totally irresponsible to attempt to keep crushing beyond 15 December because of the enormous harvesting and transportation problems that farmers will face. Also of significance is that the sugar content in the cane will be at a minimal beyond December.

It is well known that cane cutters from the villages will not stay beyond 15 December when they leave to go home for the festive season ( Christmas and New Year).

There is some talk that FSC is contemplating running the Lautoka and Rarawai Mills into the New Year and possibly up to February should there be sufficient quantities of cane left to be harvested.

Individual mill figures indicate that Labasa may be able to crush its crop by late December. It has so far crushed around 70% of the estimated crop of 670,000 tonnes. Even then, it is highly likely that some 20,000 tonnes will be left standing when the mill closes.

Lautoka with a season to date crush figure of 388,000 tonnes still has 45% of its estimated crop of 700,000 tonnes unharvested. The mill is already 7 seeks behind schedule as of now. At its present performance level which is not likely to improve, the mill will take at least 11 more weeks to crush the remaining crop of around 300,000 tonnes which takes it to almost the end of December.

As for Rarawai, 57% of its estimated crop (350,000 tonnes) of around 650,000 tonnes remains to be crushed. It is to be noted that some 40,000 tonnes of Ba cane has been crushed by the Penang Mill. Based on the poor performance of the Rarawai Mill, it will take 14 weeks to complete the crush. This means the mill will need to run until the middle of January.

The Penang Mill is scheduled to close at the end of the week, having crushed 215,000 tonnes of cane of which 40,000 came from the Ba mill area.

It is now quite certain that FSC will fall far short of its target of 240,000 tonnes of sugar for this season. Total sugar revenue is likely to be down by some $80 million for the 2009 season.

Teleni likely to be on his way out

It has emerged that Teleni is likely to be given the boot by tyrant Frank Bainimarama for his reckless spending that has resulted in the busting of the Fiji Police budget by many millions of dollars.

Teleni is a well-known poor money manager who , during his years at QEB, embezzled millions from the military's auxillary funds that sources not only uniforms, but also eating, cooking utensils and other items often required by military officers as part of their combat kit.

It has been revealed that Padam Lala doesn't only supply police and military uniforms to the junta but he also sources many purchases for them with the endorsement of his long-time friend Teleni, whose Colonial Bank account was reported to have been credited with a $100,000 deposit last year, believed to be his "cut" from Padam Lala for the military police uniform business.

Frank, who is also Fiji's illegal Minister for money is believed to be disappointed with the way Teleni is abusing taxpayers funds, especially with the funding of his imposed New Methodist crusade as a Police funded initiative and his irresponsible spending splurge on Padam Lala whom he has been adviced is giving kick-backs to Teleni.

Frank is also said to be intimidated by Teleni's "empire building" strategy and is determined to cut-off Teleni who is  turning out to be a big nuisance to his long-term plans.

THE REAL CORRUPTION FIGHTER SAY'S

There are two things about this government that make it so ineffective.

One the government is illegal, which means that investors and the international community are wary of any dealings with it.

And secondly, this government is incompetent. They're wrecking the sugar industry because they just don't understand what needs to be done to fix the problems. If they did understand, they'd put acceptance of the ED aid money at the top of their priorities.

Bainimarama probably thinks civil servants are incompetent if they tell him they need the EU money to make the changes needed for sugar to survive.

And if he thinks he needs competent civil servants, why did he sack Savenaca Narube and appoint Sada Reddy in his place. Reddy's a joke who makes the business community very nervous.

This is surely an opportunity for the Mara and Gainnilae boys to redeem themselves

So what we might be seeing here then is, PNG, by buying up Colonial State Bank, inadvertently shoring up Fiji's reserves ?
It really is like a game of Chess and you can't really blame PNG, after all, they probably bought it half price as the Junta becomes more and more desperate to try to find money to pay their boce troops !
So what's next on their list ?
Let's see, we have a few islands that we could sell to China, India or the highest bidder !
And as Fiji slowly sinks in the Pacific, will the good, honourable and honest people of Fiji continue to sit on their hands ?
This is surely an opportunity for the Mara and Gainnilae boys to redeem themselves by arresting Frank and Co. and returning the Government before things get any worse.

Newbloodfor Fiji say's

What an irony indeed for Ateca Mara, wife of unelected Minister of Defence in an unelected Interim Government belonging to the “unelected Bainimarama” in her own words!

But what do you expect from an unintelligent person? What do you expect from someone who may not have written her own speech, let alone, check the contents of the speech of so? That is obviously beyond the Mara siblings – Ateca and her other Mara siblings! What an irony that one of her siblings – Tevita Ului Mara – is working faithfully under the “unelected Interim Prime Minister Bainimarama”!

What an irony that her other sibling – Koila Mara – is wife to yet another unelected Vice President – Epeli Nailatikau!

What a real shame and complete show of utter intelligence and irony that Ateca should be game enough to display her own deteriorated moral, ethic, professionalism, or intelligency, if any all in this event!

And we Fijians continue to condone the status of our Fiji today by not challenging status quo – the rape of our political leadership and our Fijian chiefly system!

As previously commented, the irony of Fiji Independence Day – Fiji has never departed from the British colonial rule! We have never departed from the Westminister Abbey administration design. We have never questioned the legality of the work done by the late Ratu Sukuna. He together with the British colonisers are clearly ruling and reigning today. The legality of the VKB (vola-ni-kawa-bula) has never been questioned. Is there evidence of each tribal leader then when the vei-tarogi-vanua was held given the opportunity to sign the information collected legally and witnesses? Was there an opportunity for the information to be challenged? Then if this was the case, the VKB and the Native Land Trust Board is the rape of the chiefly system and the indigenous land rights from the indigenous Fijians! Ratu Mara continued this legacy and never challenged the status quo! Rabuka came in and went and never challenged the status quo! Bainimarama came in and went and never challenged the status quo! Our own very so called chiefs have sold our indigenous rights of the land and our system! What are graduate lawyers today doing about this? NOTHING! But what do you expect of the very British legal system that our lawyers are trained in? They have been blinded to this fact and do not want to upset the status quo – the very status quo that is to the disadvantage of the taukei indigenous very own rights!

Frank Bainimarama’s military government cheque dishonored

We can confirm that Frank’s military government cheque has been dishonored with insufficient funds in the account to cover the cheque amount paid out to a pro-coup beneficiary, LOTUS Garments.

This information is said to have been leaked by team Padam Lala themselves, owners of LOTUS Garments, after their repeated efforts to get repaid for the bounced cheque was unsuccessful.

Sources report that the dishonored amount is around $1.5million.

To fijiman from Tuks

Fiji Man..suggest you go to  Raw Fiji News and read for yourself this article about corruption and Nepotism in the Fiji military. As suggested, please have a good look at the names mentioned there, see their current positions in the illegal Regime headed by your VB and if you can, just for a moment , be honest with yourself and look at the real corrupted people as you refer to in your comments above. It is clear that all the allegations of corruptions against Qarase, Tuisolia and others are being cooked up by the Regime itself in their quest to justify their 2006 takeover of a democratically elected Government. For all the information and control they have, it is amazed that even Voreqe still can not put any of the alleged accused behind bars after 3 years of illegally taking over Government. From what we now have, I tell you that it will only be weeks b4 Voreqe and his coyots are imprisoned for the rots that is being spewed out from their current corrupt practises.
Please make sure you read this interesting article in the Raw Fiji News website. You can not miss it.

you will all fall & will one day face justice

@ Fiji Man who is supporting the Junta

We do understand the reason for the coup & these reasons are becoming
increasingly clear with each passing day.

The only reason FB was allowed to speak at the UN was that the US was obligated by the UN charter and couldn't deny him entry.

Judging by your calculations say you had a hand in formulating FB payout? Sami x 2 + Anon = 3.

Rest assured FM – your days of deceit & rorting this once proud nation are numbered – 'you will all fall & will one day face justice' – your continuing incompetence guarantee's it.

Mohamed Aziz say's" the best countries in the world are those where religion is dying"!!!

@ Fiji Man -> There is something problematic with many people living in this country: religion simply destroys their capacity to think. It is about time that you renounce to your backward superstitions!

Fiji is in the middle of a little plate while Samoa, Tonga and Vanuatu are on the borders of big ones. That's THE explanation.

By the way, the best countries in the world are those where religion is dying. Check the facts for yourself!

My experience suggests that corruption is a normal characteristic of "primitive" human societies – especially tribal societies – and I met a lot of grassroot people ready to use the name of their own mother under false pretense to get money… this is not something that a politician or military commander can change overnight.

Learning the hard way can be frustrating, but history will show that

UN TO CONTINUE THE DOWNSIZING OF FIJIAN FORCES!

Way back then when Bainimarama gave himself (stole) that $180.000
in back pay he also extended to a select core of officers this same privilege. They were warned that if they accepted this money they could face charges sometime down the track – an enquiry that would pretty well scuttle both their military careers & record – this could partly explain their inability & reluctance too move against him. It will come though – only a matter a time – still a lot of pride within FMF ranks – continuing boycott by the UN & other military forces (exchange programs) plus Bainimarama's increasing inability to run a civilian goverment will eventually sway any fence sitters. Another point worth remembering is that within Army ranks Bainimarama has always been considered an outsider (navy).

Bloger Sami Naidu say's that Bainimarma has a huge chunk of Fijis tax dollar stacked away in India!!!

How come everyone in the Military seems to be ok with whatever he is doing? Are they all scared of him? Or afraid of their job? Do you think that a possible underground internal move to oust him may be taking place? I read somewhere that Bai has properties in India is this true? Cause if he has property in India, then he must have a huge chunk of Fiji Tax Payers money, stacked away in foreign back accounts as well? Hey, Soli could you please look into this as well?

Ex Fiji Tourists has this to say to Teleni

Police commish
Teletubby must have forgotten about all the unsolved crimes:-

* death threatening letters to the Australian High Commissioner

* expulsion of a newspaper editor in defiance of a court order

* fire bombing of numerous cars and houses

* bomb warnings phoned to hotels to stop meetings there

* murders and bashings

* the near murder of Mr Khan

* the complaint of treason filed against the military junta by Mr Q

* etc.

Maybe the police could spend a little bit more time in catching criminals [ and keeping them in jail ] than doing pathetic dances. [ The Good Lord must cringe in horror every time he hears His name used in vain by teletubby full chow telini.

If you are an Indian, remember that it was through Ratu Cakobau’s action to ceed Fiji....

Budhau, it is Ratu Seru Cakobau the Vunivalu of Bau and the Tui Kaba, the highest, the most feared, powerful and the most respected chief during his time. To loosely and disrespectfully mention him a “old boy Seru” would hurt everyone who considers himself a fijian. Remember Fijian chiefs are not chief by choice. They are there because they or their ancestors once proved themselves to be wise, brave and powerful during their lifetime.

Ratu Cakobau had earned the respect of all the chiefs during his time. He might have made some wrong decision during his time like everybody else, one of the greatest gift he left for us was his humbleness to accept christianity which ended all the tribal war in Fiji during those dark days.

If you are an Indian, remember that it was through Ratu Cakobau’s action to ceed Fiji to Great Britain that gave the poor Indians farmers the opportunity to have a source of life in Fiji of which their ancestors(you might be one of them) are enjoying today. So leave our chief alone.

You know Budhau, I always read most of you comments and sometimes there are logics in your arguments and you seems to undestand how the government machinery operates. It is only unfortunate that your attack is presented under a faked name which to me shows that you do have an enormous shit hole or elephant arse hole.

I am writing under my real name for I am a real and raw fijian. You should consider yourself lucky for the way you humiliated our great chief we would have killed you and had you for dinner. That would now be impossible because the light that has shone through the heart of Ratu Cakobau has taught him to love.

To conclude, I wish to let you know again that I am using my real name and I challenge you if you are a man enough to use your real name when personalising issues. Otherwise shut the f…k up

The international community should keep this pressure up

Terror tactics, terrorists? Is there something the rest of the world does not know about Fiji. Banimarama should be a bit careful with this as this may backfire in the tourism industry. Nobody likes to holiday in a country where there is a terrorist threat. On the other hand, he has heroically stood up to the terrorists, removed a terrorist government and now we are safe in Fiji again. Does he really assume anyone believes this nonsense? The
guy must go rather sooner than later.

Quite obviously, the UN position with respect to Fijian peace keepers is hurting, so external pressure seems to work. The international community should keep this pressure up, but the people of Fiji have to do their share too. It is the time now to show courage, stage peaceful protests and get some spanners thrown into the government works. What about wearing a white t-shirt with FD printed on it (freedom and democracy?) What can he do if we do this in large numbers?

VOREQE IS A COMPLAINER, A WHINGER, A LITTLE CRY-BABY

EnufDictatorship Says:
For the reportes/writers to use the word 'COMPLAINED' in the opening sentence, shows to the world that VOREQE IS A COMPLAINER, A WHINGER, A LITTLE CRY-BABY…wah..wah…wah.

LOL!!! Unfortunately for us Voreqe doesn't see that and his psycho supporters will sure enough not tell it to him like that 'cos they are blinded by their greed as well.

Go democracy!!!

Why should the world listen to idiots ?

Bainimarama's pleas are indicative of the follies of a fool. The cold shoulder given to him and the illegal militia he represents are poignant lessons for dictators and traitors like him.

Why should the world listen to idiots if they continue to suppress the voices of the peoples in the nation of whom they assume to represent?
Koroi

He is just making a fool of himself when addressing the UN general assemlbly.

He wants true democracy but he is not practising it. What kind of democracy is this when only the voice of the dictator is heard and if he wants to rope somebody in to his talks, he or she has to abide by his set conditions like the visit of the Commonwealth Secretariat Sir Paul Reeves.

He is just making a fool of himself when addressing the UN general assemlbly.

Mark Manning diagnose Franks Speach!!!

I decided this morning, to finally try and read the dribble that is Frank's speech, and concluded, that it is indeed that, dribble !

" I believe that these critics are largely unaware of the extent to which politicians, in league with those who employ terror as a tactic to push a racial supremacy and corrupt agenda, had become a threat to the safety and security of our people. "

Is this statement, Frank looking at his own reflection ?

" Terrorism has become a global issue and it impacts Fiji as well. We are fully co-operating in the international effort to control and contain this scourge. "

Say what ?
Frank and Co. are the terrorists !
High Treason is an act of terror, especially when you consider the tactics Frank and his coup supporters have adopted.
Abductions and beatings of unarmed male and female Fijian Civilians, one pregnant, false imprisonment, torture and murder, along with the plundering of the Treasury and destruction of the Cultural aspects of Fijian Society.
The total lack of respect for those of Authority and various other Human Rights abuses.

" His Excellency the President of Fiji abrogated the Constitution on 10 April of this year. He took this step when the Court of Appeal ruling created a legal vacuum, a constitutional anomaly which would have also prevented the implementation of the reforms which were mandated by him, to achieve a truly democratic state.
On 1st July, of this year I announced a road map intended to lead Fiji to a new Constitution, and elections based on equality, equal suffrage, human rights, justice, transparency, modernity and true democratic ideals. "

In these two paragraphs, Frank suggests that the President wasn't able to appoint a new Caretaker Prime Minister, should Mr. Qarase resign, as suggested by the Court of Appeal and says that
" HE " decided on a road map !
But at the same moment, he fails to mention the Court of Appeal's decision that his appointment as Interim Prime Minister, was recognised as being an Illegal appointment by that same President.

" Mr. President, I and my Government were mandated to carry out and continue the reforms which will ensure that true, democratic, non-communal, and equal suffrage based elections for parliamentary representation are held by September 2014. A roadmap to implement this mandate was announced on 1st July of this year. :

I and " My Government " were " Mandated to carry out " !
This is an interesting and convenient but flawed appraisal of the events which actually transpired.

I could go on, but what's the point.

Bainimarama cant even hear his lies

He can't even hear himself when he lies. No shame no dignity. Everyone is starting to see through him as his lies no longer stick. And yet he has the gall to make this jaunt to NY to address the UN. Against his hopes he was rebuffed by the UN and Commomwealth with bad news – no more troops for new peace keeping and likely expulsion from CW games. We welcome these measures and call for more punitive actions against the regime especially in the total expulsion of all existing peacekeeping – until democracy is restored.
